In times of turmoil, it’s easy to forget: this country was built to last.
Not because we’re perfect—but because our system assumes conflict, allows correction, and relies on the judgment of the American people.
That durability still matters.

So why did they allow California?
On February 4, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed California to use its new voter-approved congressional map for the 2026 elections by denying the request to block it. The order had no written opinion, so it means the map can be used now, but it does not necessarily settle every underlying legal issue forever.
The Supreme Court interprets the constitution. Note that SCOTUS had zero dissents when deciding not to VA because it didn’t have legal ground.
Gerrymandering of all stripes should be made illegal. Political and otherwise. But that is the job of Congress.
Your ire belongs there. Not at SCOTUS.
Voting for Judge Kavanaugh and many of the Obama judges was the correct decision. I would not have denied Kavanaugh either. There was little evidence against him. And he’s been a reasonable judge.
Susan Collins is one of the most moderate politicians in gov’t. I would support her 7x days a week over Graham Platner. And the Democratic support of an erratic individual like Platner parrells the Republican support for Paxston and Trump. Zero difference between the parties. They’ll support whoever their party puts forward.
Rising property taxes is similar to trying to tax people on unrealized gains (stocks, real estate). It puts a large cash burden on the individual when there has been no increase in cash for them to pay it with. That is especially hard on low income or fixed income community. The tax needs to be reconsidered.
This is how Checks & Balances should work. Is Congress finding a bit of its backbone?

Inflation was awful under Biden. Trump’s is better as % change. For sure. But it is additive to Biden’s. Meaning things are becoming MORE expensive. And on some really important specific things….it is way worse.
But you know all this. You’re just hoping people are stupid.
Yes. Instant Runoffos (RCV) also elected the Republican governor. And what that means is, 50%+ of the voters wanted her as a senator. And instant runoffs was the most cost effective (read less money = less taxes) way to guaranty 50% plus support.
So I ask you, why do you have a problem with that? And if you say instant runoffs are complicated, well then you simply think your colleagues are pretty dumb…..
Great update from NC Forward Party Chair Pat Newton:
Signatures are being mailed in from 24 NC counties — voters saying they want the NC Forward Party recognized as an official political party and on the ballot.
More choices. Better debate. Common-sense solutions.

@MargoinWNC In NC we have semi-closed primaries. Only registered Republicans and registered independents are able vote in Republican primaries.
Why do you not want to allow independents to choose where they can vote? They are the largest voting block in NC?
