An England fan has sacrificed the £10,000 he saved for a house deposit — to spend it on taking his grandad on a dream World Cup trip.❤️⚽✈️
Jacob Allmendinger, from North Ferriby, East Yorkshire, saved for his house deposit for five years but made the call to postpone getting on the property ladder for the World Cup trip instead.
Jacob, 21, said he has "no regrets" spending his life savings on the trip of a lifetime with grandad Geoff Golliker, 80.🙌
Jacob saved for five years with the dream of one day owning a home. But he decided to delay getting on the property ladder and is due to fly out to the US with his grandad later this week.
Jacob said: "I can always make money back, I'm at the age where I can afford to miss out on a house for two or three years. But I won't ever get to go to the World Cup with my grandad again."❤️
The pair, from North Ferriby, East Yorkshire, fly out on Friday and are planning a whirlwind tour of North America centred around England's World Cup campaign.
Jacob added: "Inviting my grandad was a no-brainer. He agreed straight away."
The pair will watch England's clash with Panama and hope to follow the Three Lions through the tournament should they progress.
Jacob, who started following Hull City with Geoff as a youngster, said football has become even more important to them since he lost his grandmother in 2020.
He said: "Since my grandma passed, football has been very important for our relationship. It has definitely strengthened our relationship."
The devoted grandson said the pair's bond goes far beyond football. He said: "We get on like a house on fire.
"We're more best mates than grandad and grandson."
By far my favourite Scotland vs Brazil story is the referee saying “Good luck, may the best team win” to both captains before the game in 1982 and Graeme Souness replying “I fucking hope not”
This Italian kerfuffle just underscores how there is no overarching strategy to Trump's lying. He compulsively lies about everything, big or small, in order to further inflate his own insatiable ego. It was a breath of fresh air to see Meloni call him out on it.
It would be better for government officials in both the U.S. and Israel to think about the courage and commitment we witnessed from American and Israeli pilots flying wing to wing to save the world before giving rhetorical ammunition to people who hate both our countries.
Question: If the targets struck by the United States and Israel in Iran were military, nuclear, and regime-linked facilities, what exactly is the $300 billion reconstruction fund going to rebuild?
Multiculturalism is great when it comes to food, art, clothing, festive customs, etc. It's not so good when it involves conflicting moral values such as whether homosexuality should be permitted, whether women can show their hair or whether antisemitism should be encouraged.
With $300 billion, we could end homelessness, fund cancer research for 40 years, and give every child free pre-K for over 7 years. Instead, Trump is sending it to Iran. This is not America First. Not even close.
Reagan is rolling over in his grave. Iran’s nuclear ambitions were not curbed, and they have learned that threatening the Strait of Hormuz works and will undoubtedly leverage it in the future. Now, Iran gets to build brand-new infrastructure under this deal.
Before the war, the strait was open, Iran was being crushed by sanctions, and 13 service members were still alive. Now, 13 Americans are dead, families have paid billions at the pump, sanctions will be lifted, and the bombing has stopped. This is the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.
The Trump presidency has weakened America terribly on the world stage. Iran has humiliated us. Our natural allies distrust us. People yearning to be free, like in Iran and Venezuela, know we care not about them. This is not American greatness.
I was involved in Iran issues in the first Trump administration.
The Trump “deal” could be the most humiliating in U.S. diplomatic history.
Hundred of billions in exchange for a “promise” we already had. Pathetic.
1/ If you support Villa or Newcastle, the frustration is completely understandable. Both clubs are well run, both have finished above Spurs lately, and watching a side that came 17th outspend you is a hard watch. Nothing daft about being annoyed by it.
My problem with the deal is not that Israel doesn't like it. I can stomach disagreements with Israel. What I can't stomach is capitulation and surrender to terrorists when we didn't have to. That is unbearable and unacceptable to me.
“Where is Vader today?”
“He’s paying the Rebel Alliance $300 billion dollars after defeating them completely, every day for the last four months, sir.”
