Another year passed and another "Dungeon Crawler Game Jam" went by #dcjam2024 . This time I put my dungeon crawler kit to create "Twins vs. Ancients" https://t.co/4fPKDdIsno

@unclebobmartin@DeafProgrammer Most likely everything that was required to translate an idea into a human readable/understandable form will gradually vanish when humans no longer need to understand it.
A lot of folks still do not fully understand the impact of AI and are locked into the current status quo.
@unclebobmartin@nilostolte Agree! Seen it countless times that using a database was not even questioned. So much for delaying architectural decisions to the latest responsible moment. A lot of those projects would have been fine without the operational costs and complexity of a database.
Yeah, but you are missing the point. That guy bought DDR5 at already inflated prices to store it for 15y. Presumingly to sell it to people who want to build a 2026 retro system in 2041 for a profit. Looking on current high volume retro RAM types (SDR, DDR1) that is unlikely to net a profit. Besides when data centers dumb their EEC sticks, prices for consumer grate odecc sticks will drop as well since their is no longer a demand. Random Joe was never in this picture.
To celebrate the launch of FrostPunchGames, I am bundling my entire suite of procedural physics tools: you can grab this asset and 2 others with the source code for $1.99 (95% off) for a limited time.

So true!
The games of those devs where so great because it was something they enjoyed doing, so they put there heart into it. That's what made the games outstanding.
Ordering them to do something they may not even like, how much effort/passion you expect from that?
That's what happened at pretty much any major studio, people get ordered to build game xyz that they may not even like and you get a trash game. It is simple as that.
@Bloodwolfe08 I like the idea. However the current WoW team does not have a good track record of doing new things and get them right (in the sense of what players actually want).
As far as anything new coming from that team, I hold my horses.
@TishToshTesh@exQUIZitely Yeah that plays a big part in the lost feeling of progression along with the push-over NPCs. Any tank class can literally pull an entire zone without even breaking a sweat = boring.
@Grummz You made an awesome game back then, nobody can take that from you as longer as old-time players remember what it used to be.
But I do wonder, what hurts more all the lying and falsifying or seeing the game in it's current state?
Both must be painful, no doubt.
@exQUIZitely Yes! The feeling when you encountered your first skull level NPC :D
Oh did anyone say: "Stitches!"
Not to mention all the neat little references to movies and books and what not. It was oozing with passion.
