The heavy-ion physics season starts for the experiments at CERN, as stable beams of lead nuclei circulate in the #LHC at the energy of 6.8 TeV (teraelectronvolts) for the first time ever, and for the first time during the #LHCRun3.
The LHC will soon collide lead-ions after a gap of five years. ALICE is all set to take the lead-ion collisions data for a detailed study of the physics of quark-gluon plasma!

Last week, the LHC accelerated and collided test beams of lead nuclei at the record energy of 5.36 TeV, a first for #LHCRun3. The collisions provided the opportunity for the #LHC experiments to validate their new detectors and data-processing systems.

CMS saw lead collisions at this record energy for the first time and recorded the majority of the luminosity delivered.
The special test run at the CERN LHC with Pb-Pb collisions at record energy concluded today. This one-day run has provided ALICE with the opportunity to validate the new detectors and new data-processing systems.
