The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is warning residents about World Cup-related online scams targeting fans looking for tickets, hospitality packages, merchandise, streaming access, and betting opportunities.
Cybercriminals are creating fake FIFA websites and social media ads that closely resemble legitimate ticketing and checkout pages. These sites may steal login credentials, personal information, credit card numbers, and payments.
Before buying World Cup tickets or related products, residents should go directly to the official FIFA website by typing the address into their browser. Do not rely on sponsored ads, social media posts, text messages, Telegram or WhatsApp links, or offers that appear unusually cheap or urgent.
Be cautious of sellers requesting payment through cryptocurrency, wire transfer, peer-to-peer payment apps, gift cards, or other methods that are difficult to reverse. Do not trust screenshots, PDFs, or “paper tickets” offered by private sellers.
Residents who believe they were victimized should contact their local law enforcement agency, notify their bank or credit card company immediately, preserve screenshots and transaction records, and file a report with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center at https://t.co/sv142KFA4D.

New signs are now posted at City parks reminding residents that e-bikes and e-scooters are not permitted in parks for everyone’s safety. 🚲
The City’s new e-bike ordinance is now in effect and serves as an important reminder to ride only in permitted areas. E-bikes are allowed in bike lanes and paved areas where traditional bicycles are permitted, but not within City parks.
Thank you for helping keep our shared spaces safe and enjoyable for everyone as the use of alternative transportation continues to grow. Ride responsibly, follow the rules, and most importantly, stay safe. #ebikes
🏠🚨 BURGLARY PREVENTION ALERT
Criminals are becoming more sophisticated using hidden cameras disguised in everyday objects to monitor homeowners’ routines and identify the best time to strike.
Be on the lookout for suspicious devices placed near your home, including fake utility or grass boxes.
Wi-Fi signal blockers can also interfere with wireless security cameras, causing footage loss during a burglary. Consider hardwiring your camera systems for a more reliable layer of protection.
Protect your home:
• Keep exterior lights on at night • Lock all doors and windows • Report suspicious activity immediately • Regularly inspect your property for unfamiliar objects • Consider hardwired security systems for uninterrupted surveillance
Your awareness can help prevent the next burglary.

Sandy Fire operational update with Chief Anthony Occhipinti:
The Sandy Fire is currently 2,141 acres and 40% contained, with 1,156 personnel assigned to the incident. Fire activity remained minimal overnight.
Weather conditions today are much improved, with a morning marine layer, cooler temperatures, and higher humidity supporting firefighting efforts.
Firefighters continue mop-up operations around homes, reinforcing containment lines and building contingency lines throughout the fire area. Residents may continue to see smoke within the fire perimeter as crews work to fully extinguish hotspots and strengthen containment.
Many evacuation warnings and orders have been lifted. Please continue to monitor https://t.co/phqfGrR5tL for the latest evacuation information and updates.
We want to thank the public for their continued cooperation, patience, and support throughout this incident. Community members quickly heeded evacuation warnings and orders, helping keep roads clear for emergency responders and allowing firefighters to safely and effectively protect lives and property. The support from the community has been greatly appreciated by all personnel assigned to the incident.
To wrap up this update, incident managers are beginning to scale down assigned resources and relocate the operational base camp to the VCFD Training Complex. This transition will allow the community to move forward with this weekend’s youth soccer tournament at Conejo Creek South Park during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The Sandy Fire is currently 2,114.5 acres with 30% containment. There are 1,121 firefighters assigned to the incident.
Firefighters are expecting improved weather conditions today, including lower temperatures and higher humidity, which should assist suppression efforts.
Today’s operational priority is the lower southeast corner of the fire, where crews are working to strengthen and reinforce containment lines. Firefighters continue hiking through rugged terrain to build control lines and mop up hotspots, while aviation resources assist with water drops to cool active areas.
Crews are also continuing mop-up operations in neighborhoods behind homes to ensure complete extinguishment.
Damage inspection teams remain in the field documenting any impacts caused by the fire.
