It is a shame that there are 13 categories at the Oscars that nominated Emilia Perez, taking the chance away from what should have been quite literally ANYTHING else in those categories. Truly one of the worst Oscar nominations in history. It just might be the worst film of 2024.
Companion (2025) was thoroughly entertaining. After Heretic last year, and now here, Sophie Thatcher has proven to be an actress we should keep an eye on. She brought a ton of charisma and charm to the role. Jack Quaid was also quite fun here. It was a bloody good time.
“Wolf Man” (2025) was a disappointment. I was hoping the trailers just weren't great, but it's unfortunately just as bland as the trailers made it seem. It's Cronenberg's “The Fly” without the charm, emotion, and genuine horror.
Unfortunately, the film doesn't add any new clever twists to the IP, like Leigh Whannell did with “The Invisible Man” (2020). It instead goes for cliché after cliché with very predictable scares.
I am pretty late to the party, but I will be sharing my top 10 best and top 10 worst films of 2024 here soon. There were just a few films that I wanted to see before I could comfortably put the lists together.
Saw “The Brutalist” in IMAX today. I really wish a theater near me was showing it in 70mm, but it is the next best thing. This film feels like something that would have been made 30+ years ago; it does not feel like something made in 2024. Adrian Brody gives his best performance
in years. The supporting cast is also great. The score, my new favorite of 2024, is wonderful. Shot in VistaVision, it is also one of, if not the most, beautiful looking film of 2024. Channeling a bit of “There Will Be Blood,” this is epic in every sense of the word.
