@GRDecter Ultimately, FTX chose to engage in poor risk management and behaviour that could be perceived as fraud… so they chose to expose themselves to a possible competitive response from Binance. That response actually happened and made them go belly-up.
@0xgaut We already know how decentralised information transfer turned out. We really think decentralised value transfer is not compelling? Save for governments blocking it (too late~), seems a winner.
@MikeBurgersburg Do you know if they deploy their borrowed stable coins in other protocols to earn yields in excess of what they pay to both the protocols and depositors? Also not everyone can access defi with their deposited coin of choice.
@hansmast@QwQiao If the problem is making too many assumptions, then make less. Often it’s an interplay of understanding your audiences’ background beforehand, and their body language and engagement during. You can then flex up and down as necessary.
@davetroy@POTUS @WHCOS I think you are assuming the conclusion that it can be shut-down (globally or just in the US?) and the decision is when.
Attempting to shut it down now, and failing in that attempt is a possibility that needs to be entertained.
@knowerofmarkets It's better to spend the time learning hard-skills. Finance is something you can learn by reading books, watching videos, and doing: it's really not that hard. Trying to learn Math/CS yourself can be challenging, and you'll almost certainly miss out on theoretical rigour.
@davetroy Re metaverse, I feel this is more a timing issue. The technology isn't ready yet (maybe 5-10 more years), and FBs core business model is under threat.
As for Web3 more generally, the non-Ponzi aspect of crypto would just continue after the war (assuming humanity makes it out).
@justinlabel Even if the market is manipulated and fraudulent, it doesn't mean the underlying technology cannot be used to solve an existing problem better.
It's a low probability that the technology is just window-dressing.
@blockworks Rebranding Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality and throwing in the novelty of being able to own some of what you can interact with (assets on the blockchain).
Not sure if the technology is ready yet, but feel VR/AR was always on the horizon to be big save for the tech limitation.
@businessbarista Many governments around the world will lose control over their currency (and monetary/fiscal policy implications of that). Only the majors will survive.
Racism will be less of an issue over time as humans intermix (reproduce with different races) and we become interstellar.
@rektfoodfarmer Not sure about passive, but prob 50k in xlqdr, 20k in lp where one side is a stable, and 30k between eth and btc. Borrow against the btc and eth and pursue other strategies actively.
@RoArquette Need to take into account loss (or gain) if alternatively Joe was de platformed; market cap loss is a bit meaningless, focus should be on the customer base, and the base they want long-term: some customers may stay no matter the decision on these issues.
@kevinrose@FantomFDN Felt that Fantom ecosystem as at has more upside potential upside plus it has quality DeFi apps which is where I see the most value in. Will scale out as that potential is reached, but will probably maintain a presence on it: had a great user experience to-date.
