Applicants for public housing on Long Island have some of the longest wait times in the country, a Newsday analysis found, underscoring the housing crisis in one of the wealthiest regions in America.
People wait an average of eight years for a subsidized apartment through the Town of Hempstead Housing Authority, which is the longest among large public housing authorities, or those with at least 1,250 units as classified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Kathy Hochul will say whatever she needs to say and become whoever she needs to become when there are votes on the line.
Less than two weeks before the 25th anniversary of 9/11, this kind of political pandering is especially tone-deaf.
New Yorkers deserve a Governor with principles that don’t change depending on the audience.
Congratulations to Ivan E. Guerrero, Esq. on being honored this month as the Pro Bono Lawyer of the month by the Suffolk County Bar Association. We are grateful for his impactful contributions to our pro bono work in Suffolk County. #LongIsland
.@KathyHochul and @ZohranKMamdani think they can cure New York’s cost-of-living crisis with excuses, empty promises, and "delusion pills."
The real side effects of their policies aren't a joke: 48 utility rate hikes, higher taxes, uncontrollable government spending, and businesses fleeing our state every single day.
I have a different plan for New York. As Governor, I will deliver zero state income tax on your first $50,000, $100,000 for joint filers, cut your utility bills in half, and end the government waste.
Don't let them tax New York into the ground. Help me make New York affordable again.

God bless Sophie Cunningham!
She's on the RIGHT side of history, supporting America, defending girls and doing the right thing! 👏🏻
Kathy Hochul's fix for New York? A stack of cash and a door lock.
That's not a plan; that's a punchline.
When I am Governor, I will cut utility bills in half and repeal cashless bail so you don't need either one.
CASE UPDATE from @FBIOmaha: Venezuelan Man Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for ATM Jackpotting
Juan Manuel Gouveia-Aguilera, 27, was sentenced for his role in a conspiracy to deploy malware and steal millions of dollars from ATMs in the United States, a crime commonly referred to as “ATM jackpotting.” The Court found Gouveia-Aguilera to be responsible for more than $3.5 million in losses and this sentence is believed to be the longest federal sentence imposed for an individual’s role in ATM jackpotting.
The #FBI and our law enforcement partners are investigating and prosecuting a widespread ATM Jackpotting conspiracy that has been tied to designated foreign terrorist organization Tren de Aragua (TdA). To date, 119 defendants have been charged in the District of Nebraska for their role in this conspiracy. Gouveia-Aguilera is the third defendant to be sentenced in the District of Nebraska for crimes in connection with this conspiracy.
