@ThorbjornOleZyn The only disappointment was the back nine yesterday. Felt like with all the guys there on the leaderboard it would be an electric ending but Rai just ran away. I thought it was refreshing, not like Valhalla where it was a birdie fest
@GolfingTruther I think the initial format was fine, don't think LIV realized that OWGR would tighten up and deny them points until they changed. Lot of strategic misses that cost them the momentum they had right out of the gate
@JNucci23 so elvis smylie, david puig, lasasso, mckibbin are just dead? hate them for being on liv but guys like that would be the next generation of stars if the pga tour was still the only game in town
Thomas Detry signed with LIV Golf during the off season while still the reigning champion of the WM Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour. Just 4 months since he made the move, the PIF announced they’re cutting funding and the league’s future is uncertain.
He spoke about what that news has been like to process in an interview with Garrett Johnston:
“I pretty much shut down social media. Because when you’ve got a little bit of information out there it all gets blown out (of proportion), with many different versions and scenarios. There’s so many lies and so much untruth, it’s tough to differentiate what’s true and what’s not true. I’ve just tried to stay away from social media and that’s my way of dealing with all of this.”
What does he think are the biggest misconceptions?
“The biggest misconception is, the product is amazing. I didn’t realise how good the product was. I think LIV’s an amazing product. We go all around the world, the tournaments are so good. Don’t take me wrong, there’s many things that can improve, but it’s still a start up. It’s only 4 year old.
“And how much we all enjoy it out here. You see sometimes on social media that the players hate it and want to come back and that’s not the truth. Players really love it out here and want to make this successful. So I think that’s what I got out of my first 6 weeks.”
He then spoke frankly about the communication from LIV Golf’s leadership during this process:
“I’m not gonna lie. I think it’s been pretty poor because nobody really knows. I do think that some of the stuff is out of control, even out of the control of the LIV leadership. It comes from way above that. It hasn’t been easy for them to deal with everything and it hasn’t been easy for us as well.
“I’m fully supportive of the whole thing. I think the players who stand behind the whole thing as well. But now is the time for this whole league and every player out here to show cohesion and support for this whole thing. I think now is a moment where it’s not the right time to have individualistic people and ego-centric people going their own way. I think if everyone stands for each other and we all give this thing our full support, it’s going to go a long way.”
This seems to be the public attitude echoed by most players. They are fully aware of the challenges that lie ahead and want to do everything in their power to make it work. It’s also worth remembering that many of them will only have the Asian Tour to fall back on next season if LIV Golf was to completely shut down. That’s not something Thomas is worried about right now though:
“I have full faith in this thing and the future of LIV.”

What a FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) campaign looks like:
🚨 April 16: LIV Golf’s Saudi Arabia Investments expected to end; Stars face career limbo
🚨 April 29: Saudi Arabia to pull funding from LIV Golf; Star players face painful road back
• Media recycle variations of the same controversial story week after week and call it “breaking.”
• Each new article will “update” a small angle to reignite the doubt.
• When the coverage feels like it’s deliberately kept alive to keep the target bleeding, you’re watching a FUD campaign in action.

Wasn't the headline that LIV was breaking news to players and staff tomorrow that funding from PIF was done after 2026 tomorrow??? Fake news strikes yet again. LIV in 2027 I think is guaranteed... what it looks like, who knows
Stuff like this makes me sick. LIV had such an opportunity to move the needle and I feel like they failed at most of these opportunities. LIV will still be here in 2027 but man what could have been
Here’s a funny story I found out about LIV, after President Trump let them run their event for a heavy discount at Doral, they wanted to charge him full price to play in their Pro Am in Virginia. He then made LIV pay full price the next season. That’s how dumb LIV execs were.
