The UK attracts large numbers of overseas students (despite the very high fees our universities charge) because of the international reputation of our universities. But education is a global market and these students can easily go elsewhere if they feel unwanted in the UK.
As a university academic, it saddens me to see how some politicians and sections of the media speak about overseas students. Rather than extolling the many economic and cultural benefits these students bring to the UK, they see them as a burden and focus on the negative aspects.
