Cool find during some pond maintenance by our @SummerwoodComm1 volunteers - caddis fly cases! The larvae use silk to bind together bits of stick, stones and other debris to make a protective case. This one even has some pearl mussels hanging out on it! #insects#wildlifegardening

@Blue14Dragon Heyo! I don't think they're living *in* the tree, just using existing channels in the bark to go up and down. There are likely LOTS of aphids (which secrete honeydew, a sugary liquid) up the tree - or sweet birch sap leaking from a wound - and the ants are foraging for it.
