In 2022, the acid price index gave back ~40% within four months of peaking.
Tight markets loosen faster than they tighten.
What breaks this squeeze first: Hormuz, export bans, pass-through or plant outages?

Smooth is not safe. A 20% fall in equities arrives on a date. A 3% loss of purchasing power arrives on no date at all.
No bank app ever says: "Your money bought 3% less this year."
Which risk do you actually lose sleep over?

@gjyadnya Very true. Looking at historical performance, the investors keep chasing new assets and new markets. Based on our analysis on different assets and markets, the ones that have recently performed generally do not continue to do so. While the underperforming assets join the rally.
Same record margin cycle. Very different share prices.
Large US refiners roughly doubled this year. One listed Indian refiner is down ~8% over six months.
Markets price the last 12 months. Supply shocks land in the next 3. Where else is it open?

@zerodhacapital The increasing power demand not just for consumption but also for upcoming data centres is clearly reflected in this chart. Interesting part is that India is at all-time low of coal reserves for power generation currently.
@BaluGorade SIPs are for the long term. Judge returns against average felt inflation over the holding period, not one year's print. That's your real return. Fund choice matters too.
For alpha generation, direct equity through a registered adviser can be a good option to achieve your goals.
Sulphuric acid isn't a refinery by-product. Sulphur is. The acid is made downstream from it.
Supply follows refinery timelines, not price signals, so price does the adjusting.

Your FD is judged against India's lowest inflation number.
CPI: 4.82%. Households say they're living through 7.8%. WPI: 9.92%.
Swap in the household number and the best FD goes from +0.86% to -2.12% real.

One barrel in six.
Russia's export curbs pulled ~1.4 mb/d out of an 8–9 mb/d seaborne diesel market. Crude eased from its wartime peak; diesel didn't.
That gap is the refiner's margin. How long can it last?

~50% of seaborne sulphur trade moves through Hormuz. Add China's acid export ban and Russia's sulphur ban, and India's landed sulphur hit ~$1,100/t by May.
Three chokepoints, one price.
Which one reopens first?

India's best FD rate is 8.25%.
After tax (30% slab): 5.68%.
After 4.82% CPI inflation: 0.86% a year.
At a large bank's 6.50%, it's -0.35%. Nothing went wrong, and you still lost purchasing power.
