Today’s #SCOTUS decision takes our country decades backward, sharply limiting a vital tool that colleges have used to create vibrant, diverse campus communities.
Our efforts to promote diversity in higher education are undeterred.

With the SCOTUS ban on race-conscious admissions, we are calling on policymakers & college leaders to identify practices & solutions that affirm and advance equal opportunity in #HigherEd for Latinx, Black, Asian American, #NHPI, and #AIAN students.
Today’s SCOTUS ruling barring consideration of race in college admissions is disappointing. UC has worked to address inequity in #HigherEd without #AffirmativeAction for decades and we remain committed and prepared to support our peer institutions in expanding student diversity.
Like the staggered start in track and field, affirmative action is intended to account for historical inequities experienced by marginalized communities in higher education and other endeavors. Today, the Supreme Court has decided that this tool is no longer appropriate.
