#TopLawyersSpeakOnHIV raising serious scientific questions.

The KEMRI Director stated live on air that once a patient is enrolled into HIV care — tested according to the national protocol, confirmed HIV-positive, entered into HTS/ART registers, started on HAART, and even issued an HIV clinic card, as was the case with Millicent Awino — such a patient cannot later be removed from care merely because their viral load becomes LDL (below detectable levels). Why? Because the patient would still be HIV-positive.

Now, being unable to explain how a patient who met all these strict diagnostic and treatment standards later turned HIV-NEGATIVE on all subsequent tests, KEMRI has shifted to arguing that the patient’s LDL viral load after adherent use of effective antiretroviral therapy means she may never have been HIV-positive in the first place.

This is a serious contradiction and a distortion of the scientific process.

An undetectable viral load after ART indicates successful viral suppression — not proof that HIV never existed.

Has KEMRI remained fully objective in this matter, or are non-scientific considerations beginning to influence the interpretation of the evidence?
