@Culture_Crit also the final say on the building design is on the person/company paying for it. Not the architects, or whatever. Architects could have fantastic and beautiful ideas but clients want functionality and cost efficiency.
@Culture_Crit Because after ww2 world economies were in shambles so they forfeited beauty for utility. Buildings became square, lamps are straight to save money and strip it down to just functionality. Then when economies recovered they realized it's cheaper to do this and it works
