📢 Genomics & oncology HCPs
📢 It’s time to talk to children about cancer & hereditary risk
I attended the Parenting with Cancer Conference, and the insights were invaluable. Huge thanks to Caroline @FruitflyC for her transformative work on facilitating tough conversations with families!
Key takeaways:
1. Discussing cancer or cancer risk with children is tough but essential.
2. Starting the conversation is often the hardest part – guidance and reassurance are crucial.
3. Honesty is appreciated by children, who will ask questions, sometimes in unexpected situations.
4. Several organizations offer resources, support, and training, not just for parents but also for HCPs!
Resources:
1. @FruitFly offers a Coaching programe for parents with cancer, a "train the trainer" program for parents, and training for HCPs. More info:

I highly recommend attending these impressive conferences. Hearing from so many people about their experiences with cancer was truly impactful. We have much to learn to better support families through these challenges!

We have seen your FEB '24 HSJ article @SeanDugganMHN. Thank you for highlighting the implications of not intervening to support young people to manage their mental health. The impact on young people, parents and society is enormous, we need new approaches.
