LPES students, teachers and parents learning together about sustainable gardening & healthy choices while serving our neighbors. All produce grown is donated!
We were busy bees π in the garden yesterday morning, harvesting peppers, planting carrots and radishes, while also slicing and tasting garden fresh watermelon and popping popcorn that we grew ourselves! Pulling those kernels off the husk was a lot of work! Great job everyone
Kale me crazy but I think these gardeners knocked it out of the park this morning! π₯¬ π
We harvested kale + garlic and started more summer vegetables. π π₯ π We also bid farewell to two amazing 5th graders who are graduating this year! π§ Good luck Cayden and Sarah!
πͺ΄ For the past seven years, @LaurelParkElem has had a school Garden Club managed by the PTA. This tasting was the first one they have done in a while, and they definitely enjoyed the βfruits of their laborβ! Read more about the club and their garden: https://t.co/n8q1AqXW0Z
Today we got to taste the fruits of our labor and sample some of the first ripe cantaloupe we have grown. It was so delicious straight from the vine! π This crew harvested so many beautiful veggies to donate too. Summer gardening in NC is so rewarding.

The LPES Garden is growing wild this season! Cucumbers have been growing so fast they are breaking the trellis they live on π Thereβs cantelope aplenty and our sunflowers are reaching for the sky!
The first donation from our garden for July is an amazing 15 lbs of cucumbers, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes and squash! We are so proud of our student gardeners π
The very hungry caterpillars in our garden this month are horn worms and they really love our tomatoes! π π We harvested cucumbers and potatoes as well as the tomatoes that were still left. So much fun!
Checking on the garden today in this heat wave. Everything is growing strong! The 3 Sisters garden is well on its way and our cucumbers and tomatoes are ready for harvesting.

@LHEStructuredPK@LJWood_LHECMES@LHECMES The second picture looks like radishes to me! The first picture might be too. The last ones remind me of carrot sprouts but itβs hard to be sure.
Itβs a berry good morning in the LPES garden! The new blueberry and blackberry plants are already producing delicious fruit! Which berry is your favorite? #GardeningTwitter#schoolgarden

One of our most beloved native trees, eastern redbud (Cercis canadensis) is common in the woods and along roadsides in our area. It's a member of the pea family β you'll see its pod-like fruits later in the season β but for now, redbud flowers are drawing in loads of bees.
