Ever felt like the global landcover maps were a bit lacking in urban areas? We used the OpenStreetMap database to make fine resolution LULC maps. The beauty is OSM is vector-based so you can go as fine as you want. Now published in @WileyEcolEvol https://t.co/Z4yIC6GIWP
We've been placing 'ratcams' in alleys throughout #Chicago to get a look at rat abundance throughout the city, but rats are not the only species we see. Check out this opossum investigating our camera!
Today our Assistant Director of One Health @maureenhmurray (far right of photo), is in New York for the first National Urban Rat Summit! Dr. Murray was invited to the summit to speak about her rat research in #Chicago.

This paper is VERY important. We sampled raccoons, skunks, and opossum for rodenticide throughout #Chicago and detected it IN EVERY SINGLE ONE, even opossum joeys weaning on their mother! Check out this thread for more details.

We are very excited to have Dr. Tiziana Gelmi Candusso (@UrbanZoochory) to join our team! We’ve been collaborating for years via @uwi_network and are looking forward to do some really great human-wildlife conflict work across multiple cities with her!
Next week I start a new chapter in the same book, along my awesome partners @LPZ_UWI , inc @maureenhmurray @masonfidino@sbmagle, who I already saw as colleagues after 4 years of meetings and collaborations through the @uwi_network . I’m excited to become a part of their team.
I defended my thesis on Friday! It was really amazing to get to share this moment with so many special people who have supported me along the way. A special thank you to Dr. Stankowich, everyone in the @CSULBMammalLab, and the @uwi_network for making this work possible.
It's been confirmed that the family of owls in Lincoln Park that died this year was the result of rodenticide poisoning for all three owls. #Chicago

The day we have waited for, worked for has come! At this moment, 3 chicks have hatched and the parent plovers are still incubating the fourth egg. Our work continues as we continue to support Imani and Sea Rocket and their chicks. Thank you, as always, for your support.
We have been very fortunate to receive grants from the Walder Foundation in the past (if that helps with anyone considering to explore this possibility with us).
The 2025 Biota awards application for post-doctoral research has been posted! We'd love to explore this possibility with people wrapping up their PhDs to co-develop a project that interfaces with all the data coming out of @uwi_network. Please share!
