Beckfoot Trust set out to make their schools more sustainable.

The results? Lower bills, brighter classrooms, and 282 tonnes of CO₂ avoided every year.

Today in London, experts Rachel Toresen-Owuor, MEI and Wayne George presented at the London regional workshop on Highways Emergency Preparedness, Response & Recovery. This event is part of a series of workshops we are delivering in partnership with the Department for Transport.

Discussions focused on understanding specific climate adaptation risks and impacts, sharing knowledge and insights from Local Partnerships’ support across England and Wales and exploring how we can collectively anticipate, adapt, prepare, respond and recover. We also considered the important role of assurance in assessing the impacts on all council services.

How do you prove that furnishing homes can change lives - and save public money? Data and Analytics team, Joran Mendel and Robert Mansfield have published a new case study showing how we carried out a rigorous cost-benefit analysis behind the national report for End Furniture Poverty.

This case study explains how we:

✅ Worked with data from two local authorities (running Local Welfare Assistance schemes) and two housing associations (offering furnished tenancies)
✅ Built a theory of change for how each scheme supports tenants
✅ Created bespoke cost–benefit models using real-world data
✅ Compared the costs of providing furniture with the financial savings and wellbeing gains achieved

Our analysis found that:

❇️ Every £1 spent on local welfare assistance saves over £14 for the public purse
❇️ The new Furniture Flex model makes it easier for landlords to offer furnished homes
❇️ Furnishing just 10% of social homes could deliver major social and economic benefits

Yesterday at the Energy Capital Partnership Conference, where Project Pride featured as an exhibitor. The conference brought together over 150 specialists to explore the challenges and opportunities of delivering collaboration in smart local energy systems and whole energy system planning.

Project Pride is a collaboration between:
Jane Forshaw – Director, Climate, Local Partnerships LLP, Marie Dobinson – Energy Infrastructure Programme Manager at the West Midlands Combined Authority, Cathy McClay FREng – Head of Futures at National Grid

Together, we are exploring how better data, such as insights from Local Area Energy Plans, can help improve investment decisions made by the grid.

We’re excited to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible when organisations come together to accelerate the transition to a cleaner, smarter energy system.
