🛢️ 🇱🇾 Libya Declares Maximum Emergency After Third Drone Strike Hits Largest Functioning Refinery

🔸Libya’s National Oil Corporation declared a “maximum state of emergency” around the Zawiya refinery west of Tripoli after three drone attacks in roughly 48 hours, Anadolu reported.

🔸Monday’s strike hit a tank containing an estimated 4.5 million liters of gasoline, igniting a massive fire before the tank collapsed, according to Reuters.

🔸An early Saturday strike punctured a naphtha tank, causing a contained chemical leak. Another drone struck the complex’s desalination plant, damaging its main pipeline and a storage tank and knocking it out of service, Libya Herald reported. Officials warned the shutdown threatens local drinking-water supplies.

🔸No casualties were reported, and refinery operations continued, Reuters reported. The 120,000-barrel-per-day facility, linked to the Sharara oilfield, has repeatedly been caught in fighting between rival armed factions, part of the instability that has gripped Libya since the NATO-backed overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
