📣Excited to see this in @ASHE_Journal! No difference in patient outcomes using PO Amox or Cephalexin 1g TID compared to FQ & TMP/SMX for definitive bacteremia treatment from urinary source.
Congrats @geyer_abby & team @DrJaymoGR@THGRPharmRes
Thank you @ABsteward for posting!
With the latest CLSI breakpoints, tobramycin is the only reliable aminoglycoside for Pseudomonas if you ever need one (Susceptible: MIC ≤1)
Amikacin: can still be used for UTI (Susceptible: MIC ≤ 16)
Gentamicin: RIP ☠️
New in @CIDJournal:
"approximately 40% of patients undergoing a major elective surgery did not receive guideline-adherent antimicrobial prophylaxis, largely due to unnecessary use of vancomycin..."
Any ideas to⬆️guideline adherence? #IDTwitter#TwitteRx

Today, we revised the EUA for Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir and ritonavir), to authorize state-licensed pharmacists to prescribe Paxlovid to eligible patients, with certain limitations to ensure appropriate patient assessment and prescribing of Paxlovid. https://t.co/DgCjHkdqgf
I used to drink tons of Diet Coke but it’s been one month since I’ve had a drop.
I want to share some of the changes I’ve observed in myself over that time:
- My health is unchanged
- I’m less happy
- My one source of joy is gone
Thanks for encouraging me on this journey!
Updated Shorter Is Better Tables, thanks to @ABsteward for finding the new RCT of 6 mo all oral Tx for MDR TB, non inferior to > 9 months with an injectable regimen!

Wow first time ever to use @CIDJournal https://t.co/o69mvYntS0
Updated Shorter Is Better tables with new RCT for pediatric CAP. There are now 15 RCTs for CAP having randomized almost 9,000 patients, both kids and adults. It really feels almost like we're just piling on to run up the score at this point!

Here’s the Evusheld data - risk of symptomatic disease went from 1% to 0.2%. Excellent safety profile. Intramuscular AZD7442 (Tixagevimab–Cilgavimab) for Prevention of Covid-19 | NEJM https://t.co/iWEgdmIRQf
What works?
Behavioral interventions work.
Great work here from @jeffreylinder and colleagues with the power of the nudge, and showing how powerful peer comparison can be.
Updated Shorter Is Better tables with the 2 new RCTs @ABsteward found! 1 new post op prophylaxis, shorter was better. 1 new exception, chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (very long was inferior to very very long).
