I am running for Iowa House District 28. I am not a career politician. I am a lawyer, author, mother, wife who is disappointed in the direction of our state. It is time for more women in politics. It is time for more pink in politics #iowahouse#iowa
1/2 It's publication day for this rich but concise Handbook of Contemporary Christianity in the US, w/ excellent articles from scholars such as @edrescherphd, @ndrewwhitehead, @wellman4444, @jeremylsabella, @emoprofessor,@atarango1, @LRomingerPorter et al. https://t.co/56QoRzlJc3
I'm not one for Twitter announcements but... some news. In October I accepted a full-time job as Director of Operations at an area music nonprofit and have been busy writing grants, helping with ed programming, learning about budgets and fundraising, etc.
Still revising my book and here for all your history takes, but happy to be tapping into some other longstanding interests and to have found meaningful work outside higher ed. Solidarity with others forging new and better paths outside adjuncting. You can in fact do other things!
Fellow Iowans, tune into "Talk of Iowa" with @CharityNebbe today for a show featuring Civic Music Association of Des Moines and the theme of music and healing. Then head to https://t.co/i7sYso6V2v for more details about Saturday's events, featuring string quartet Brooklyn Rider!

5yo made a lot of red choices in morning preschool, had to lay down the law and take away his allotted piece of candy for dessert.
5yo, sobbing: "You broke my heart."
@ashley_gibby I did this kind of stuff with my three babies and it was a mix of empowering, insane, and sad that there was unspoken pressure to do it. No employer should assume that women working postpartum is easy, normal, or entirely by choice.
@WEMilteer Yes, to me and to others. It was bizarre for a lot of reasons not worth getting into, but to be clear my issue is not with students bringing up issues of bias in general.
I'm not a conservative and get accused of "liberal bias" in evals more often than not, but as an adjunct I did have a student engage in a campaign of character assassination based on googling my undergrad and graduate institutions (Wheaton and Notre Dame) and it was 1/3
13) Moreover: an ideological monoculture in higher ed hurts the Left, too:
- In the proliferation of weak arguments that evade critical scrutiny
- and rewarding frankly MAGICAL thinking about the half of the country (or MUCH more!!) that does not share their priors
