@PatOBrienAvalon @IrelandsFarmers Or a small malthouse. Chimneys are very 17th/18th century. Entrance likely too large for a Sweathouse. What part of the country?
19th century Irish village at Baker's Flat, South Australia has a Sweathouse. Well done @SArthure https://t.co/CF4Pi5HxMe via @ABCaustralia#Diaspora#Archaeology

In the heart of the plateau between #Glencar and #Glenade valleys sits a late #Neolithic/early #BronzeAge settlement. Hut sites, field walls, cairns, a wedge tomb, and enclosures. A remarkable site, I couldn’t resist a visit while looking for sweathouses.

@JackmanNeil Would be delighted to amplify the archaeology of sweathouses sometime (and plenty of people have offered up their original survey and excavation data, no gatekeeping here thankfully)
The 3rd Sweathouse research excavation of 2022 uncovered stepping stones leading up to the entrance. The flagstones on the floor inside extend out to the opening. More info to follow. All work was funded by @RIAdawson and @leitrimcoco Enjoy #HeritageWeek2022#Archaeology
In August a probable levelled Sweathouse was excavated south of Mohill. The location turned out to be a corn drying kiln, a big one, hidden in a field for centuries (very near to a Sweathouse mapped in 1837. Thanks to @RIAdawson@leitrimcoco and landowner #HeritageWeek2022
@magnumlady@macgabhann31 Short answer is they're seem to have been a medical practice that survived a bit longer in the west and NW due to the late arrival of dispensaries... all very civilised behaviour
