I came across a post on Reddit that said:
“AI’s underlying purpose is to let wealth access skill while taking away the skilled person’s ability to access wealth.”
I don’t think I’ve ever seen the economic implications of AI put so incisively.
It's increasingly clear that AI companies have no viable technical plan for controlling the advanced autonomous AI systems they are creating.
But even if they did, we'd still be on track for human disempowerment, as illustrated in this harrowing new short film, Moloch, where under competitive pressure we just steadily turn all the power over to AI.

@longjohnshirley@policytensor Because the government, and more specifically Trump doesn’t want to pause, regulate and cooperate with China on this. He doesn’t get that this is a humanity level technology, not a U.S one. Unfortunately, our survival greatly depends on this guy’s hubris :/
Why augmenting human intelligence only to solve the AI alignment problem ? Why not just continue to augment humans and using BCIs to connect ourselves to digital environments instead of trying to invent a safe ASI ? I mean wouldn’t it be better to have a human centered future where we don’t become irrelevant ?
@synthwavedd Leo, do you have any inside knowledge in OpenAI that motivated you to end the subscription or did you just follow the hype like everyone else ?
@TokenGremlin I think you’re right, but why don’t they have enough compute though ? A couple weeks ago, they weren’t so short of compute. Actually, it was Anthropic that struggled to keep up.
@scaling01 Just a quick question, why is OpenAI seemingly short of compute ? Didn’t they have the highest amount of compute among the frontier AI companies a couple weeks ago ? And did Anthropic obtain more compute ?
Did I miss something ?
