I think around half of my clients have started with their own VRoids using just presets and free/cheap assets from Booth
As time goes, you can choose if you want to stick with that or if you want to upgrade, but there's always affordable stuff for starters! ✨
YOU DON’T NEED AN EXPENSIVE ASS MODEL TO BE A VTUBER!
VROID EXISTS
PREMADES EXIST
PNG TUBERS EXIST
CUSTOM MODELS EXIST
Stop saying you need! It’s a luxury to have a expensive ass model. Having a pricey ass vtuber model ain't going to make you famous. Get streaming.
Matcaps (and materials in general) work better when there's color contrast beyond just specular highlights.
Here's a bad matcap that I made last year vs an upgraded version! The new one really defines the edges.
You can be part of my summer batch!
This time my comms will stay open a bit longer 👀 but slots are very limited so don't miss it!

@Yarrow_Marigold Even though that's a good idea, that relies more on each artist's actions to make it a reliable fix
Which means that it can't be standardized bc we can't control how everyone's doing it, so in that case we still need a solution from the site itself
Totally agree
Imagine looking at a $10 service, but then you have to pay +100% for commercial use, add +20% for clean lineart, then +40% for full color, and +25% for background
I'm not doing the math, but you can imagine that the final price would be WAY higher than expected
Since it’s becoming a hot topic (again), this was Muncha’s response in the official VGen discord regarding the requests to implement a price filter and I think everyone interested in the topic should give it a read!
I think she put it really well in that VGen being one of the few (if not only) sites that truly cares about empowering artists, would want to avoid a “race-to-the-bottom” model like other sites with price filters.
The moment a price filter is implemented, there would also surely be an influx of listings with misleading pricing just to make sure their services still show up when filtered for low prices.
There has already been so many cases of clicking into services with misleading base prices that surprises you later with unexpected hidden costs EVEN without price filtering, so you can only imagine how much worse it would be if price filtering is implemented.
This then defeats the whole purpose of having a price filter, and creates another tedious issue to regulate.
And it’s really not as easy as saying VGen just needs to make sure the artists with misleading services would be penalised accordingly when the sheer amount of reports would be way too overwhelming alongside the other reports they already handle everyday.
Other than this, there’s also the fact that the filter ends up creating a competitive environment where artists feel pressured to price low to stay relevant/seen.
If small artists are already struggling to get their work seen right now, then what would happen if a price filter is introduced and they now also feel pressured to further lower their prices as much as possible just in hopes of being seen?
I understand that it would be convenient for clients on a budget but I hope clients also understand that there’s really a lot to be considered, not just from the clients’ perspective, but from the artists’ standpoint too.
I love VGen and I’m here today because their current system helped me reach potential clients even when I was a nobody 🥹
I don’t have a solution to this but I just hope that VGen will always encourage and support a sustainable system for value-based pricing because then, artists can feel confident to price their work fairly as they grow without being pressured to price for visibility.💚
@blesthades I don't consider having the price is visual clutter (as long as it's done right), but maybe having a grid and a list view options, prioritizing images or text depending the view 🤔
But yeah, I think that having a range filter would be more useful than a simple "sort by price"
@ZacheryDew@lampdevil Well, I do agree that having the price be visible on the main feed would be nice lol same for right clicking on services, I didn't even noticed that until now
Those are pretty basic and useful features that should be prioritized, specially the right click!
@ZacheryDew@lampdevil Even with a price range like you describe, some artists (like myself) still do manual price adjustments based on client's complexity and design independantly from ad-ons (>人<;)
It migh be a better solution than a simple "sort by price", but I still think it's not ideal
Friendly reminder that my 3D beginner vtuber course's first episode will be on youtube, June 15th, and yes it will be free! Link to channel below.
Here's a sneak peek at the course curriculum and what we'll cover when we make Mochi (course character):
-Intro to the course (overview)
-Overview of blender's hotkeys/tools
-Make Mochi's donut prop (modeling/Uvs/Texturing)
-Head Creation
-Body Creation
-Hair Creation
-Clothes creation
-UV unwrapping
-Rigging
-Texturing
-AR Kit face tracking setup
-Face Emote setup
-Export to Unity
-Unity workflow for 3D vtubers
@lampdevil Yeah, the whole add-on system on VGen would make this "sort by price" thing not work in the way that's intended
Also it's not that hard to manually look through the feed for something affordable, specially if you sort by random 🤷
