End of Watch: Police Officer Donald C. Weese
October 23, 1992

Today we remember Officer Donald C. Weese, who joined the LVMPD on September 11, 1990. On the night of October 23, 1992, while responding to a gun call, Weese’s patrol car was involved in a collision and struck a traffic signal pole at Charleston and Eastern. He died at the scene from his injuries. He was just 25 years old.

We honor his service and sacrifice.

A first accident can be frightening—especially when you’re 16.

After a newly licensed teen became disoriented while leaving a shopping center near Centennial Center Boulevard and was involved in a minor crash, Traffic Officer Matthew Muzdeka stopped to help.

Officer Muzdeka didn’t lecture the young driver. He calmly reassured him, checked on his tearful sister in the passenger seat and helped both teens regain their composure so they could safely drive home.

Their mother later wrote to LVMPD to express her gratitude. The teens couldn’t remember the officer’s name, but our team was able to identify him.

For the compassion and professionalism he showed that evening, Officer Muzdeka received the October Good Ticket Award from the LVMPD Foundation and Resorts World Las Vegas—along with a staycation package.

Congratulations, Officer Muzdeka, and thank you for demonstrating how kindness can make a lasting difference.

He knocked on Herbert Grossman’s door. Herbert let him inside. The witness never saw the man leave.

Sometime between November 23 and November 26, 1990, 68-year-old Herbert Bertram Grossman was robbed and murdered inside his apartment at the Apple Apartments in Las Vegas. His home had been ransacked, and several belongings were missing.

A witness described the visitor as a White man, 20 to 30 years old, approximately 6 feet tall, with a medium build and medium-dark hair. He wore a white button-down shirt and Levi jeans.

Decades later, Herbert’s case remains unsolved—but someone may still remember the visitor, the missing property, or a detail they once believed was insignificant.

Please watch. Please share. Help bring answers to Herbert’s family and justice to his memory.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

LVMPD officers responded to a serious wrong-way collision near Sahara Avenue and Tenaya Way. Two people were transported to the hospital, and both drivers are in critical condition. The cause of the collision is unknown at this time and remains under investigation.

In just the past couple of weeks, we’ve lost six lives on our roadways. Every life lost is a family forever changed. We cannot keep seeing these tragedies happen.

If you’re impaired, DON’T DRIVE. If you feel unwell behind the wheel, pull over safely and seek medical help. Never put your life or someone else’s at risk.

Your choices behind the wheel have consequences. Do your part. Drive safely. Help us stop these preventable tragedies before another life is lost.

💜 MY VOICE IS MY POWER 💜

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

For survivor Kristian, finding her voice was a powerful step toward reclaiming her life. Her message is one worth hearing again: “My voice is my power.”

Domestic violence often follows a cycle of broken promises and repeated harm. Kristian's courage reminds us of the importance of recognizing the warning signs, seeking support, and knowing that help is available.

You are not alone. You deserve to feel safe. Your voice matters.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is committed to supporting survivors through our Southern Nevada Family Justice Center and LVMPD Victim Services Unit.

💜 If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, confidential support and resources are available.

Six more lives were lost on our roads this week. Six. An unbelievable number, and one of our highest weekly totals since January.

Behind every number is a person, a family, and a community forever changed. These tragedies are a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly one moment on the road can change lives forever.

As you travel throughout the valley, remember that your decisions behind the wheel affect more than just you. Every trip is an opportunity to help prevent another tragedy.

End of Watch: Police Officer Truong Thai
October 13, 2022

Today we honor Officer Truong Thai, who proudly served with the LVMPD for over 23 years. Thai joined Metro in 1999, and dedicated most of his career to patrol in the Northwest and Northeast Area Commands. He also served in Financial Crimes and the Training Section. Colleagues remember him as a hardworking officer who led by example and served for all the right reasons.

Outside of the badge, Thai loved his daughter Jada, volleyball, and time on the water. On October 13, 2022, Thai was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance. His loss is deeply felt, but his legacy lives on in every officer he helped shape.

RAINY WEATHER DIDN’T DAMPEN OUR DUI ENFORCEMENT

Despite wet roads and rainy conditions from Rachel, LVMPD officers and our law enforcement partners conducted a DUI Blitz over the weekend to help keep impaired drivers off the road.

The enforcement effort resulted in:

314 traffic stops
232 citations
24 DUI arrests
3 other arrests
1 recovered firearm
27 vehicles towed

Thank you to our patrol officers, LVMPD Traffic, Nevada State Police, Henderson Police Department, phlebotomists, and dispatchers who helped make this operation a success.

Driving is a privilege, not a right.

There are too many safe options available. Never drive impaired.

October 11, 1988

HONORING A FALLEN HERO

Today, we unveiled Officer Austin Zade Abdelnabi’s portrait on the Wall of Honor at LVMPD Headquarters, honoring his life, his service, and the ultimate sacrifice he made for the Las Vegas community on August 4, 2026.

Officer Abdelnabi's wife, Sage, and his family joined us for this moment as we added his portrait to a place reserved for those whose service and sacrifice will forever be part of our department’s history. Sheriff Kevin McMahill made a promise to Officer Abdelnabi’s family that we will never forget him. That promise is one we carry with us every day.

These portraits ensure that future generations of LVMPD employees and visitors will know his name and remember the officer who gave everything in service to others.

To Sage and the Abdelnabi family, we stand with you, the community stands with you, and we will never forget.
