#OnThisDay in 1866, Congress passed the 14th Amendment, which granted citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States,” which included former and recently freed slaves. The amendment was ratified by the states on July 9, 1868.
Yesterday, a top Trump Administration official made an apparent threat to arrest me.

This past weekend, I was glad to attend the @LWV_WI of Beloit Lively Issues Meeting to hear from Kole Torres, DEI Manager for the LWV of Wisconsin, and Vanessa Beckham, Rock County Equity and Engagement Strategist.
Today, the League, along with over 140 organizations leading in women's, reproductive, LGBTQIA+, civil, and human rights, sent a letter to President Biden calling for immediate action to add the duly ratified ERA to the US Constitution.

Black women & all underserved communities already experience inequitable barriers & limited access to adequate health care services. Many communities targeted w/ voter suppression are the same ones most impacted when reproductive freedom is limited or taken away #AbortionRights
The League of Women Voters stands in solidarity with women and individuals who may become pregnant in the fight to protect reproductive freedom. 🧵 #ReproductiveRightsAreHumanRights
Not only is the right to a safe and legal abortion a matter of personal freedom, it’s also a major factor in the movements for racial and economic equality.

LWV strongly condemns the racist text messages sent after Election Day targeting Black residents in multiple states across the country. These vile messages have no place in our democracy. We stand united against hate & for the protection & civic participation of all communities.
The League of Women Voters of WI & our Election Protection Partners are conducting this survey to learn from voters about their experience during the Nov. election. Your answers will help us work with policy makers to make improvements to voting in WI.
