491 Cats Rescued Thanks to Local Volunteers! ❤️

A truck was intercepted in Guiyang, Guizhou, China on July 3rd, carrying 491 cats crammed in chicken cages, believed to being transported for slaughter.

Due to concerned volunteers who noticed the truck, and with fast action from local rescuer 瑀姐 and Guiyang’s stray cat network, the truck was stopped and the cats were saved. 🐾
Local authorities were able to smoothly intervene due to article 8 of the Animal Prevention of Disease Act.

Many concerned people who learnt of the rescue volunteered their time to help assist in getting the cats to safety and to hospitals.

Over 400 cats are in pet hospitals and clinics receiving care.
There were many cats that wore collars who are believed to be stolen. These cats will be returned; others ready for adoption in less than a week!
Volunteers are rallying on Rednote to reunite lost cats with their families.

This is a wonderful example of the dedication and perseverance of hardworking volunteers on the ground in Mainland China are fighting for the lives of the cats who have no protection from the law.

BBC Investigates Cat Torture Networks

The BBC has reported on the rise of cat torture networks and the threats these networks have on society, highlighting how this is a global issue.

Lara from Feline Guardians spoke with BBC journalist Angus Crawford, sharing the heartbreaking realities of what these networks are doing on a daily basis.

The investigation calls for coordinated international action, urging politicians and law enforcement worldwide to push for the creation of animal protection law, namely in Mainland China, where the torture of cats and kittens is still legal! This is an active effort. Authorities cannot remain passive and we will continue until this has changed.
