@polycitywander Did she say she doesn't like to tell people how to live their lives? But ... she is on city council and that is their job ... I'm confused.
Planning language is "Technocratic, jargony and not helpful. Be mindful of making your work accessible. Clarity is essential." @JulieBurros

Oh - two more items:
- Get out of your office and go to those areas where you want to reach people

.@DKeysRI had a lot of excellent advice for planners & preservationists who want to be inclusive: "Understand intent vs impact. In building trust, it takes YEARS to build. You need to be present for us not just when you want to be, but always." @savingplaces#PastForward21
- Acknowledge the mistakes. You need to find a way of working through those feelings because this is not about you
- Go to their events. Go to their activities. You have to sell yourself. The main thing is being present
Thank you, @DKeysRI
Excellent conversation between @BrentLeggs & @HDHoodDesign about Landscapes & Preservation as Justice. "We have to get out of the way of keeping something stuck in time." This is what we came here for! @SavingPlaces#PastForward21
.@SecDebHaaland gave a very solid speech at the @SavingPlaces#PastForward21 plenary today. "Not only do we (preservationists) create a more sustainable future, but we also preserve the history and memories of the people that came before us."
.@PWEdmondson, CEO and President, @SavingPlaces
"We can go farther, achieve more, and be more relevant together." #teamworkmakesthedreamwork at #PastForward21 A wide variety of speakers at this year's conference shows the "P" preservationists are willing to change!
.@MGMagalong of @APIAHiP announced the 2022 APIHiP Forum! Why @CityofLowellMA? "We want to highlight the Southeast Asian community" at the 50 year mark of conflicts which led to the population growth in MA. https://t.co/1BYtzUzHBs #PastForward21 @savingpplaces
.@ETepporn of @ai_immigration at @SavingPlaces#PastForward21: "There is nothing like experiencing history where it happened." True. But if you can't make it to Angel Island, check this out:

.@MGMagalong of @APIAHiP at @SavingPlaces#PastForward21 on the #AAPIDC project: "People know the DC Chinatown gate, but not the people. There are very few Asian-owned businesses across the district," but language marker signage for Chipotle, Panera, etc. in Chinatown.
"Go to the powers to be and say YOU NEED TO CHANGE THIS."
Agreed, Jeffrey "Free" Harris. AGREED. Who are the powers that be, and how do we contact them?
.@FranklinVagnone asked "How do we keep this momentum moving?" during the @SavingPlaces#PastForward21 LQBTQ+ & Historic Preservation affinity session. Jeffrey "Free" Harris answered. "Change the rules. What is integrity? What is considered historic?"
"We should consider expanding how we determine what is worth saving. Itโs stale, itโs tired, itโs played. We need to re-examine what got us here - we are losing out on identifying & recognizing places that are significant to a wide variety of populations that exist out here."
