Connect, collaborate, and share ideas at the #ISSCR2026 Meet-Up Hub. Reserve a 45-minute slot to bring a group of scientists who share a common interest together and network with peers in your field. Space is limited - submissions are due 13 May. https://t.co/NwFDkr6DAI @ISSCR
Today I listened to our fantastic cohort of MSc Stem Cell Technology students present business proposals for their UoN spin-out companies.
Presenting to our investor panel for seed funding to achieve their first milestones we heard from:
DermaStem Ltd - who have developed a mesenchymal stem cell-based wound dressing that could reduce the need for surgical skin grafts in patients with severe burns.
TendoMend Ltd - who have developed a surgical scaffold containing adipose-derived stem cells for use during rotator-cuff repair surgery.
StemGel Ltd - who have developed a hydrogel containing hIPSC-derived endocardio cells, cardiomyocytes, and endothelial cells to treat myocardial infarction.
Although these companies are all hypothetical, it was fantastic to see how student ideas developed over the past few months, progressing from basic science, development of IP position and filing of patents, pre-clinical and clinical trial development through to product licensing, marketing, treating patients and eventually exit through acquisition.
Well done to all students involved in todays business plan presentations!

Today we finished our stem-cell practical. Well done to all students in the class!! Over the past week everyone successfully maintained cultures of undifferentiated hIPSCs while at the same time differentiated hIPSCs into definitive endoderm to assess how BMP4 alters embryonic patterning. Next week we will interpret Q-PCR data from these experiments. @UniofNottingham@MedicineUoN #stemcells

We had an exciting first day during our pluripotent stem cell practical for @UniofNottingham MSc students. Today we coated plates and flasks with Matrigel ready to receive hIPSCs for maintenance and differentiation into definitive endoderm. It is a great pleasure to be involved in the training of future leaders in stem cell science. @MedicineUoN@UoNFacultyMHS
