Banbury Rd is a hellscape again this evening. Just as the LTNs gummed up St Clements, @OxfordshireCC traffic policies are doing more harm than good. Will Cllr Gant come to his senses now the chaos is on his doorstep?
My letter to @AndrewGant3 following the news that, despite the @OxfordshireCC 's own consultation indicating strong opposition, they will be going ahead with a congestion charge - and using the money from it to support people from outside Oxford, not those who live in our city.
East Oxford Community Centre is taking shape! Take a look at the eco-friendly features of the centre with Councillor Linda Smith, including a completely gas-free heating and cooling system, 48 solar panels and careful waste management on the building site from @ODS_doinggood.
Thanks to everyone who opened their doors to the Blackbird Leys @Oxford_Labour team today!
It was great to be out on the doorstep with Councillors Imade Edosomwan, Simon Ottino, @LabLinda75 and @LubzStaProperty 🌹
Wonderful news from @AngelaRayner@rushanaraali today - the Vagrancy Act 1824 will be repealed! Finally this cruel and outdated law is scrapped.
And congrats to @crisis_uk and their activists for their brilliant campaign.
I've written to Andrew Gant to ask if the congestion charge permits for people who work in the zone only accessible via the toll gates will also be available to commuters who need to get to the railway station for onward travel to work.
Oxfordshire County Council does not serve the interests of Oxford. These proposals take no account of local communities, and they will result in hardship, misery, and unintended consequences as people divert around the toll gates to carry out their essential business.
Things might look a bit messy right now, but the top shops in Blackbird Leys are open and still serving the community.❤️
A new district centre is on the way, with green spaces, new shop units, and a new community centre.
Pop down, say hi, and support your local shops.🛍️
Today, we're launching Greater Oxford – a new proposed council for Oxford and its immediate surroundings.
Our proposal would bring local decisions under one roof and closer to the people they affect.
I think Oxford deserves a leader who's actually got some idea what's going on in it 🤔🤔
Oxford needs to be in charge of its own destiny, not run from rural Oxfordshire
Creating a Greater Oxford is the only local government reorganisation that makes any sense
"Increasingly, that's the way we want to go. Provide people with a more long term, stable place to call home."
@LabLinda75 told That's TV what the £1.7 million pounds in grants awarded by Oxford City Council to tackle homelessness could be used for
This is really exciting. Looking forward to seeing the detail and exploring how this new funding can support the work of @OxfordCity@ox_place to build more of the genuinely affordable homes for social rent we need to help fix Oxford's housing crisis.
@AndrewGant3@OxfordCity Don't just delete the tweet @AndrewGant3 but please resolve to check your facts in future, avoid misleading people and apologise. There are real challenges with delivering affordable housing around Oxford (including NIMBY Lib Dems), misinformation helps no-one.
