100’s of workers, labor advocates & victim’s families gathered today for the dedication of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire memorial site, 112 years after 146 garment workers — most of them young immigrant women — lost their lives, an event that galvanized the US labor mvmt
TODAY we are at the unveiling of the Triangle Fire Memorial to the victims and legacy of the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire.
The fire claimed the lives of 146 garment workers, many of whom were immigrant women.
A permanent memorial for the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire was unveiled in Lower Manhattan, 112 years after the tragedy that claimed the lives of over 100 workers in 1911. It is a reminder of the importance of workplace safety & renews our commitment to protecting workers. #1u
Never forget. If you want to learn more @StreamOnMax has the short documentary on the fire “Triangle: Remembering the fire.” Protections for #labor, #fire, #workplacesafety were fought for the result of other’s injuries or deaths. Respect the history.
Thank you to Uri Wegman and Richard Joon Yoo for this amazing design. Thank you to everyone who is attending today. May we never forget the lives lost. #weremember
