It's ridiculous Burnham using his Dad working in EU with Free Movement in 1990...to make an argument for it now.
It's a whole different kettle of fish now and how can we have an honest discussion on evidence & facts when there aren't any & it's down to the EU and not us.
❗️EXCLUSIVE❗️
Andy Burnham has opened the door to Britain rejoining the EU’s free movement rules, arguing an “honest discussion” about the idea is needed
The PM said the nature of immigration has been “different” since Brexit, with more foreigners moving permanently to the UK rather than returning home
Burnham noted how his father, Roy, an engineer, took advantage of the EU rules in the 1990s to work in Germany
He also said since leaving the bloc Britain has lost access to ‘Eurodac’, an EU database on border crossings
“I think you have to have a very factual, quite evidence-based debate about this,” he said
Burnham made clear staying out of free movement would **not** be a red line for talks (unlike adopting the Euro or rejoining the Schengen Area)
Burnham made the comments to me in one of four interviews conducted during his first 100 days in office. All unpacked in tomorrow’s Sunday Times.
It’s big news. Free movement seen as a key reason why the country voted Brexit in 2016. No PM has made the argument for potentially rejoining since… until now.
(Important to note: Burnham accepts there were ‘very significant challenges’ too with free movement. Hasn’t reached a firm decision yes or no. He continues to mull over ‘options’ for closer EU ties)
KEY BURNHAM QUOTE
“Freedom of movement had very significant challenges associated with it and I spoke about them in my previous time in Parliament. But, at the same time, it was a type of immigration that perhaps wasn’t as difficult (as now).
“Revolving door migration where people would come and then go back is different. The balance of migration has changed, hasn’t it, since then? I think we’ve just got to have an honest discussion about those things.”

Rachel Reeves is rumoured to quit as an MP to benefit from her experience as Chancellor
It comes after she "secretly met" two City companies in the last fortnight
@MillardClothier Sources with knowledge of the meetings, which came just ahead of this week’s Budget, say Reeves and her top aide discussed the political advice they could offer

Not another one quitting - this can't be a coincidence
The Government’s entrepreneurship adviser has quit ahead of the Budget “We treat [innovation and entrepreneurship] as a bit of a sideshow... that mentality is really dangerous for British business as a whole”
@OpiniumResearch@ObserverUK He's dropping 2 points on this poll - also dropped 10 points in the poll before this.
Dropped 5 points on More In Common poll last week
YouGov = saw the highest proportion seeing him unfavourably since he became prime minister.

She reiterates that she will depart the day after the Budget but has announced it ahead the Budget.
🚨NEW: The government has turned off the comments section on their latest post about clocks going back after their last post was used by the public to express dissatisfaction at the government
@TedUrchin@SGSmith4C So what's the deal we would be voting on?
How people can keep floating out polls when there's not even a deal been negotiated is quite worrying
That's what happened with the EU Ref vote
People voted before the deal was negotiated
@alabasterfury@algorecrave I've just had Cancer Treatment.
Charity's do excellent work- often fill in for a lacking Service.
I am talking about lack of GOV focus & failing targets
Just 3 trusts out of 121 in England are treating patients quickly enough-experts warn delays could be putting lives at risk
@PGroenhuysen Hunt - Health Sec who ruined the NHS and then they got him back as Chancellor to finish the job and cooked the books
Look at this disgraceful record of Hunt as Health Sec from 2012 - 2018 and what he done to the NHS...and why it didn't cope during covid
