BLOODY SUNDAY
Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the deaths of 14 innocent people who were taking part in Derry in a protest against internment. They were shot dead by British paratroopers.
We remember them and their families and friends.
THIS IS NOT A WOMEN’S ISSUE!
"It's been a heavy 48 hours in Ireland with the horrific murder of Ashling Murphy", @Corrinne100, Women's Officer for Meath Labour.
"We need better street lighting, more safe spaces, community initiatives to bring people together and much more…and we need it NOW."
"We all know that it is not all men, but it is men nonetheless. This is not a Women’s Issue!"
"We need teams rolled out to go to schools, community centers, and youth groups to talk about violence, sex, consent, masculinity, privacy, social media and a plethora of topics that our young people are not being educated on, for many different reasons."
"We are upset, angry, in a state of shock and disbelief that a young woman could have made a simple decision to go for a run at 4pm in an area she believed to be safe, and not return home. How can any of us feel safe after that?"
"Ashling's name will now be etched in our minds forever. Ashling’s name now joins a list of others we will not forget: Anna Kriegel, Nadine Lott, Anne Colomines, Elaine O’Hara and the other 240 women who have from 1996".
Happy (belated!) New Year from Meath Labour. Looking forward to another busy year support our local representatives, campaigning on local issues and growing our membership 🌹
"The Government and the HSE need to act immediately to radically improve the PCR testing service as it's just not good enough right now", @eilishbalfe, Labour Party Local Area Representative for Ratoath.
"Working together, the government and the new communities should be able to make great progress towards making the Garda Síochána a much more inclusive and diverse body of men and women than is currently the case.’’ - @willyrue
Our Equality Officer for Meath Labour Reuben Hambakachere has welcomed calls from Minister for Justice urging members of minority and new Irish communities to consider joining An Garda Síochána in 2022 recruitment drive. Govt. is committed to increasing diversity in Gardaí.
"Not all of these communities have equally positive views of the guards and this is an issue that needs to be addressed frankly and in a positive spirit."
Yes I cried this morning but they were tears of joy at the overwhelming support I received for my Late Late Show appearance.
