Today we're proud to have produced this letter in @LabourList alongside @labour_council & @labhomeless_cam laying out our ideas for housing policy during the pandemic and beyond. Evictions and homelessness are a political choice. Let's get it sorted.

BREAKING: The government is threatening to break its promise to ban no-fault evictions.
1m renters had a rent hike in the last month. Huge numbers are at risk of eviction this winter.
And now Truss is putting landlord profits ahead of our lives.
But renters will fight back.
🚨NEW: Today we sent an open letter to @AndyBurnhamGM asking him to build on the example set by the Scottish Government, and call publicly for a rent freeze & eviction ban to address the looming crisis faced by renters.

NEW: The Scottish government has announced a rent freeze, effective immediately.
Well done to @Living_Rent for showing that we can force those in power to act on the housing crisis.
Our campaign is calling for the rent freeze to be extended across the UK.
#EnoughIsEnough
The situation for young renters is dire. With bills rocketing upwards every day and rents growing at their fastest rate in 16 years, it is no wonder young people are finding it hard to get on the housing ladder. https://t.co/Coo747UUoh
In the ‘social housing’ sector, as a result of the government’s rent formula of CPI) plus 1%, four million council and housing association households are facing the threat of a double-digit rent rise next April. Time to campaign for a Rent Freeze.

As millions of people worry about how they can survive the winter in the face of unaffordable energy price hikes, and the threat of a 10% rent increase, time for a campaign for a rent freeze?

“Housing, and the basic needs of society, should never have been left to the marketplace.”
@PresidentIRL is one of the only public figures anywhere in the West prepared to speak this obvious truth.
Absolutely laughable that tonight, on #bbcaq, Labour MP Thangam Debbonaire refused multiple times to answer whether the party would support rent caps (and complained I was even asking the question!).
Where are Labour on the housing crisis? Totally AWOL as far as I can see.
📢Later today MSPs have the opportunity to do the right thing and support renters across Scotland by supporting @LabourMercedes's amendments calling for a Rent Freeze!
