The HLG also inquired about the wellbeing of the labours and directed SP Kargil to ensure that the grievances regarded delay in payment of wages is strictly dealt with as per law in a time-bound manner.

Discussions during the inspection highlighted the challenges of the project viz., limited attack points, water seepage and extreme weather conditions for the workers.

Hon'ble Lt Governor appreciated the progress made by Exe Director NHIDCL & team and emphasised the need for continuous efforts to overcome these challenges and ensure the timely completion of the project.

General Manager of NHIDCL, Shiv Kumar, elaborated on the progress of the project with details of the inclusion of exhaust/fresh air ducts, ventilation shafts and lay-bys ensures safety, convenience for users etc.

Hon'ble Lt Gov Brig (Dr) BD Mishra inspected the construction progress of Zoji-La Tunnel in Kargil (Eastern Portal). The project, with 6 km completed out of 13.145 km, is on track for timely completion by Sept 2026.

MP Ladakh, EC Naqvi & Dy. Com Kargil also accompanied the HLG.

He apprised the HLG of impediments in progress of the Kargil Zanskar road owing to land acquisition issues and requested intervention.

The HLG called another meeting of all concerned to find a feasible solution to the issues.
