“The only thing an old man can tell a young man is that it goes fast, real fast, and if you’re not careful it’s too late. Of course, the young man will never understand this truth.”
— Norm Macdonald
managing stress well puts you ahead of 95% of people in terms of physical health
stress is the silent killer that people don’t speak about enough
it’s absolutely detrimental. you should probably watch stress levels more closely than your alcohol or food consumption
we become what we are called
the self is a collaborative fiction, shaped by words
we become the stories told of us, because words create as much as they describe
Never victimize yourself. You always have agency, you always have power, you can always get up and walk away. You can always ask for help, you can always learn how to communicate differently. Taking responsibility for your circumstances, even when they're difficult, is the first step toward changing them. While external factors may create challenges, focusing on what you can control rather than what you can't allows you to maintain your personal power.
Even in the most challenging situations, you have choices about how to respond, what meaning to assign to events, and what actions to take next. Developing this mindset of personal agency doesn't mean denying real obstacles or hardships, but rather approaching them with the belief that you can influence your path forward.
David Lynch // "I’m just, you know, kind of happy in the doing of things. Even just having a great cup of coffee is happiness. Getting an idea, or realising an idea. Working on a painting…working on a piece of sculpture, working on a film. One thing I noticed is that many of us, we do what we call work for a goal. For a result. And in the doing, it’s not that much happiness. And yet that’s our life going by. If you’re transcending every day, building up that happiness, it eventually comes to: it doesn’t matter what your work is. You just get happy in the work. You get happy in the little things and the big things. And if the result isn’t what you dreamed of, it doesn’t kill you, if you enjoyed the doing of it. It’s important that we enjoy the doing of our life."
Today I saw the video of my parents wedding from the 80's. It was magical to see everyone young, dancing, hugging, cheering life.
At the same time a feeling of loss invade me.
You are young, only once.
Life and time does not wait for nobody.
The brain can't determine reality. It can only determine its own predictions about reality. You don’t see reality, you see your brain’s best guess of it.
This is called predictive coding in neuroscience.
