@AlanWar80129895 @LucyHunterB This is a factor. Public sector pay is ok for people starting out but doesn’t now progress fast enough so the best people may leave and experienced people from outside are not tempted to apply for higher level jobs as the pay is not enough.

If you’ve never heard ilka, it’s just cos it’s been lost where you are

@silverscribed The bulk of people who voted SNP in NE Scotland were never “rural” people or lower middle class. It was and probably still is the working class in towns. The voter base is not tartan Tory. This is a fundamental misconception of central belt commentators

Commentators are saying Labour only won by Reform splitting the Tory vote. But how many votes did Reform take from Labour from disaffected working class people say in NE England? Does this not explain much of Starmer’s pitch before the election?

@NeilMackay Stop using the term rural. SNP support in the NE has always been working class people in coastal towns. It’s never been the farming population. The main support are not tartan Tories, even if the candidates often secretly are.

@DalgetySusan To be fair, Labour didn’t have the exciting agenda to live up to people’s expectations, or else the civil service just wasnt up to the job if it did. That made the opening for Salmond. Labour needs to learn from that.
