Today, Goldberg did not even try. And honestly, this is where we have to draw the line.

You invited content creators in Ibadan to your event. You sent us invitations. You told us it was strictly by invitation. We showed up, supported your brand, and made time for you because we believed our presence and work were valued.

But what happened today?

Creators were left standing outside for hours.

Some were eventually allowed in, only to discover that there was no seat for them. No proper arrangement. Not even water.

And the most painful part?

The same event had creators invited from Lagos who were given VIP treatment.

So what exactly are we saying to content creators in Ibadan?

That our platforms are not valuable enough?

That our audience doesn’t matter?

That our influence only counts when we are outside our city?

That we are good enough to invite, but not good enough to be properly received?

Ibadan creators are working. We are building audiences. We are creating conversations. We are promoting brands, businesses, events and culture in this city every single day.

We deserve to be treated with the same respect given to creators from Lagos or anywhere else.

This isn’t about demanding special treatment. It is about basic respect, professionalism and dignity.

If you invite people to your event, especially strictly by invitation, you have a responsibility to make adequate arrangements for them.

Don’t invite us simply because you need numbers, content or visibility, then treat us like an afterthought when we arrive.

Ibadan has creators. Ibadan has influence. Ibadan has voices. And we are done being underestimated.

I love that this is driving a conversation about wanting more joyful stories.

I was part of the @afroromcon team this year and our theme was “Love as Resistance.” The point of it was to show that love, joy and other parts exists in our literature and we examined it.

It was a joyous project and this was one of my favorite slides.

Point is, we have African joy despite the trauma. Or rather, in spite of the trauma. That’s why I love all the love Call of My Life keeps getting. That’s why I can happily recommend Heart Analytics.

African joy exists in life and also in literature. Let’s platform our joy.
