My ex called my daughter too masculine. Like me. Said it like it was an insult, like it was something we should both be embarrassed about.

My daughter looked at him and said if being masculine means having a job, buying a house, and not bringing random strangers around my kids then I'm glad I'm masculine like mom.

I don't know where she got that from so fast. That kind of clarity and composure in the moment, just looking at him and laying it out that simply. She didn't yell, she didn't cry, she just stated the facts of what masculine apparently means in our family and walked away from it.

I have a job. I bought a house. I have never once brought someone I barely know around my children.
