Campus beats Mill Valley in the first 6A state softball semifinals games, 7-2.
Haysville Campus Varsity Lady Colts defeated Mill Valley 7-2 on Thursday after pulling away in the middle innings. Jocelyn Daily got the scoring started in the second, and Lily Clements added to the lead with an RBI double in the third. Mill Valley tied it 2-2 in the bottom of the third on a two-run homer by Liv Peery, but the Lady Colts responded in the fourth with RBI singles from Alexis Butler and Kyra Caudillo to regain control.
Kylie Matthews pitched a complete game for Haysville Campus, allowing two runs on 10 hits over seven innings. The Lady Colts finished with 15 hits offensively, led by Caudillo, Butler, and Emmi Cooper with three hits each. Caudillo also drove in two runs. Haysville played clean defense with no errors and turned a double play.
Mill Valley was led by Logan Waters with three hits.
Campus will play the winner of Gardner Edgerton and Topeka in the state championship. #sportsinkansas
6A State Softball Quarterfinals Recap & Bracket
Campus 3, Derby 1
Haysville Campus delivered one of the biggest surprises of the opening round, knocking off previously unbeaten Derby to advance to the state semifinals. Tied 1-1 entering the seventh inning, Reese Storm came through with a clutch two-run single to give the Colts the lead. Kylie Matthews was outstanding in the circle, allowing just one run over seven innings while Campus collected 10 hits in the win. Alexis Butler, Storm and Kyra Caudillo each had two hits while Storm drove in two runs. Campus advances to face Mill Valley in Thursday’s semifinals at WSU-Wilkins Stadium.
Mill Valley 2, Olathe West 1
Mill Valley survived a pitcher’s duel behind a complete game effort from Emma Hadley to punch its ticket to the semifinals. Addison Moeller tied the game with a solo home run in the second inning before Logan Waters delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the fifth. Hadley allowed just three hits and one run across seven innings as the Jaguars improved to 25-3 on the season. Mill Valley now meets Campus in the semifinals Thursday morning.
Gardner-Edgerton 5, Maize 2
Gardner-Edgerton answered an early deficit and never looked back in a quarterfinal victory over Maize. After Maize grabbed the lead on a Gabi Uffendell solo home run, the Blazers responded with two runs in the first inning and added insurance in the second. Kenley Sutton dominated in the circle with nine strikeouts in a complete game performance while Gardner-Edgerton played error-free defense. Kaedence Becker and Aspen Walker each collected two hits in the win. The Blazers advance to the semifinals against Topeka-Cair Paravel.
Topeka-Cair Paravel 5, Blue Valley 4
Topeka-Cair Paravel held off a late Blue Valley rally to advance to the 6A semifinals. Madilyn Poole led the Trojans offensively with three RBIs while Campbell Dawson went the distance in the circle. Blue Valley threatened in the seventh with a two-run home run from Gianna Gilstrap, but Cair Paravel held on for the win. Shea Splittorff collected four hits for Blue Valley in the loss while Lucy Kennedy added three hits. Cair Paravel advances to face Gardner-Edgerton Thursday afternoon at WSU-Wilkins Stadium.
