Arsenal felt familiar before I even understood why.

“And then there was the manager, a man who I initially thought had been named after the club and then believed that somehow the club must have been named after him. Arsene Wenger may have struggled with his raincoat, but rarely with his orchestra. The football his teams played sang.

“But what was once the nostalgia of the past has become the beauty of the present.

“We won. We are champions of England. And we are just one game away from being crowned champions of Europe too.”

Jarell Quansah’s 🇬🇭 Ghanaian football roots run deeper than many know.

His grandfather, 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐫 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐡, was a talented Ghanaian footballer who attended 🛑 𝐌𝐟𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐦 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 in Cape Coast, where he became a star player and earned the nickname “Indian Rubber” because of his incredible leap and aerial strength.

Samuel later played for clubs including Accra Great Olympics, Ghana Railway Corporation and Mysterious Dwarfs.

He was also called up to represent Ghana during the early Black Stars era before relocating to England in the 1960s.

Samuel passed away in March 2025 at age 92. Now, his grandson Jarell carries that football legacy onto the world stage for 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England.

After winning GOLD for Nigeria in the women's 100m Hurdles in Ghana last night, Tobi Amusan is flying out this morning, straight to China to compete in the Diamond League.

She could have opted to go straight to China for the DL without coming for the African Champs, but she has steadfastly shown commitment to the continent by always showing up.
