Barack: You told me all those years ago that you couldn’t promise me the world, but you could promise me an interesting life. Of course, you outdid yourself and managed to give me both.
Eight years in the crucible, and not once did you melt from the heat. Not once did you let it harden you. Instead, you used it to reveal your truest essence: your stubborn optimism and unflinching courage, your dazzling brilliance and unpretentious decency, your ferocious work ethic and absolutely unshakable moral fiber.
Barack and I never did anything alone. Through two national campaigns, eight years in the White House, and in all the years since, we had an incredible team backing us up and pushing us forward.
It was such a joy to be back together with so many of the alumni who’ve supported us over the years. We’ll forever be grateful for their work, and our country is better off thanks to their service. We love you. 💗
Dr. Charles Whitman Dabbs, an 85-year-old Black Navy veteran, finally earned his Doctor of Education degree from Tennessee State University — more than 70 years after he first began his college journey.
He joined the Navy right after high school, served his country, built a family and career, and never gave up on that dream. At 85, he walked across the stage.
It’s never too late. 👏🏽
