I feel that during the pandemic, online quizzes should not be used as frequently. Most people are already stressed with their normal lives, so adding frequent quizzing to their distance education can cause more student stress and harm than engagement and learning. #ETEC681
4. As an ID, I would likely limit the usage of online quizzes. I feel like they be used to measure knowledge on a high level, for instance to verify pre and post course general knowledge. Online quiz formats and tools can also be used for self-assessments & reflection. #ETEC681
3. After reading two articles based on online quizzes, I do not believe that this strategy benefits distance learners. The US Department of Education (2010) and Stanley's (2006) reviews state that there is no proof that using quizzes for online learning is effective. #ETEC681
2. Online quizzes are used for both cognitive and teaching functions. Cognitive because they attempt to verify knowledge on the subject that was taught and teaching because they are also used by instructors to diversify their teaching/learning activities. #ETEC681
1 Online quizzes are used by instructors to test students' knowledge transfer. This method is a simple and quick way to check learners' knowledge compared to other faculty-student intensive interactions such as assignments, discussions, papers & projects (Stanley, 2006). #ETEC681
@MissIngridS A7: I learned how to "Tweet"! But what an experience filled with anxiety. Holy moly, is this how my parents felt when I taught them how to send text messages?! #ETEC681
@MissIngridS A6: I think by offering students a variety of ways to share their thoughts will allow for a wider range of perspectives (discussion boards, synchronous and asynchronous discussions, presentations, using a variety of apps/software, etc.). #ETEC681
@MissIngridS It's important to make students aware of the topics that will be discussed prior to a class/meeting (like an agenda before a synchronous call, to manage expectations). #ETEC681
@MissIngridS I also used @Socrative when I was teaching high school students. I used to let them (beg them!) to bring their phones to class so they could participate in class discussions and answers questions (similar to twitter, just not public!) #ETEC681
@MissIngridS I also have to say that as much as I dislike the UX of Moodle, I"m happy Concordia uses an LMS to keep teachers and students connected. Moodle has grown on me over the past 2 years. #ETEC681
@MissIngridS I really enjoy using Google Suite to work collaboratively with other (Docs, Sheets, Hangouts, Slides). In my workplace, I used Slack and now Microsoft Teams to chat with my colleagues. This really helped me stay connected with them even while working remotely #ETEC681
@MissIngridS I feel connected when the breakouts rooms consists of the same people for the entire class. That way, I get to build a better relationship with my class mates and learn more about them (like I would in an in person setting). #ETEC681
@j_a_corrigan Saint-Hubert. My good thing that happened today was that I ordered Uber Eats, finally got the meal I've been craving for a few days! #ETEC681
