🚨🗣️ Zlatan Ibrahimović on Cristiano Ronaldo's first-half performance for Portugal:
"Yesterday, Lionel Messi scored two goals and the entire football world started asking the same question..."
"How would Cristiano Ronaldo respond?"
"Well, now we have the answer." 👀
"Two goals before halftime."
"Not one. Two."
"This is why I laugh when people say Ronaldo is finished."
"Finished players don't walk into World Cup matches and dominate like this."
"Finished players don't carry this level of pressure at his age."
"Finished players don't keep proving people wrong year after year."
"The funny thing is that after every quiet game, people rush to write Ronaldo's football obituary."
"Then he scores again."
"And again."
"And again."
"Today wasn't only about the goals."
"Look at his movement. Look at his leadership. Look at how much attention he attracts from defenders."
"Even the free-kick goal from Nuno Mendes started because Ronaldo made the right decision."
"Most strikers would have tried to take the glory for themselves."
"Ronaldo saw the better option and Portugal benefited."
"That's experience. That's football intelligence."
"People think greatness is only about scoring."
"Sometimes greatness is knowing when not to score."
"Yesterday Messi reminded the world who he is."
"Today Ronaldo has done exactly the same."
🔥🇵🇹
"Messi scored two."
"Ronaldo answered with two."
"And somehow people still think these legends are finished."
"Football keeps changing. The names at the top somehow stay the same." 🐐
- He took over the team early to train us for the Club World Cup.
- They didn't sign anyone to cover the midfield.
- They left the defense in tatters.
- Locker room full of stars and egos.
- 50 injured.
I hope Xabi Alonso succeeds at Liverpool.
FWIW, I don’t think Xabi Alonso has any dislike for Vinicius. I think his reality is completely different from Vini’s camp. Xabi has a vision and is implementing what he believes needs to be implemented.
It’s very cliche, I know, but there’s a reason why this is the most difficult job in football. He’s trying to implement a lot of new tactical concepts with a new group of players while also juggling the pressure and noise — and he is rightfully doing what he wants. He *should* have free reign to be in full control.
Most people understand that the ultimate goal is for the *team* to win.
I will say that while he keeps winning, this will be subdued and controlled. Last night I said it’s a controlled, slow burning fire. But if the team does go through a losing streak, it could get ugly.
But *so* much can still change as the season goes on. Can’t discount anything, including Vinicius being back to his best as a starter.
I’ll end with my own subjective reality which may or may not resonate with you. All I care about is Real Madrid’s success. Have supported this club since ‘98. And my dad since ‘66. The amount of players we fell in love with are limitless. We’ve seen the rise and fall of so many of them. The only constant was Real Madrid itself. If the club is succeeding, that should mean the players are succeeding too. But you need the club to succeed first, and as a coach, you can’t bend your philosophy and what you believe in just to avoid seeing players or fans get upset.
we get this question a lot on the podcast: “how do you deal with player FC?”
I don’t. I create, I don’t consume. Leave people to do as they wish. Don’t care what people think so much. It really doesn’t matter. Just do you, and the ones that resonate with you will find you — the rest are irrelevant ✊
Down to 10 men, nothing working out, but a Toni Kroos corner to a 5ft 8 Lucas Vazquez has won Real Madrid the game.
This is Real Madrid DNA, we never give up.
• Rüdiger jumping into the crowd
• Rüdiger hitting Alaba
• Alaba hitting Rüdiger back
• Tchouameni slapping Rüdiger
• Alaba and Joselu slapping each other
And then there’s just Jude Bellingham doing his celebration. 😂
