These delays in exhumation of Yazidi mass graves create a lot of additional trauma in the Yazidi community. The analog I can make here is adding more timber to the fire pit so it keeps burning for years. They send remains in batches and every time, the community re-lives this genocide. Several people told me today, same message with different words: “this will never end”!. This batch is particularly painful because 13,000+ ISIS members will be released from Iraqi prisons.

Diyar Ali Raffo, an Ezidi from the village of Kocho in the Şengalê was just rescued by SDF, Kurdish security forces in northeast Syria (Rojava). Diyar was 10 years old when he was abducted by ISIS in 2014.
