DStv opens all channels to celebrate 30 years

DStv has kicked off its highly anticipated “Open Time” today, 7 November 2025, giving all active decoder subscribers access to all channels at no extra cost.

The special viewing window, running until 9 November, marks DStv’s 30th anniversary and brings back a beloved tradition from South Africa’s television history.

The nostalgic move pays tribute to the early M-Net era when “Open Time” allowed non-subscribers to enjoy select free programming. To mark the milestone, DStv is reuniting familiar broadcasting icons such as Ashley Hayden, Scot Scott, and Doreen Morris for the weekend celebration.

From Friday to Sunday, viewers on any DStv package can enjoy top-tier entertainment including the Springboks vs France rugby clash, the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix, and hit shows like Survivor USA, Date My Family, and a special Carte Blanche legacy episode.

MultiChoice South Africa CEO Byron du Plessis said the event is “our way of saying thank you and welcoming a new generation of viewers back home.”

Khama Billiat faces debt crisis as unpaid loans pile up

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Khama Billiat is reportedly struggling with significant financial troubles, with outstanding debts in South Africa despite his return to Zimbabwe to play in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League (ZPSL).

One of the major financial issues involves an outstanding debt of approximately R372,066 owed to Standard Bank from an overdraft facility taken in 2020.

While Billiat reportedly made regular payments until 2023, he has since defaulted on monthly installments ranging between R80,000 and R90,000.

Attempts to serve him with a summons have been unsuccessful, raising concerns that his assets in South Africa could be attached to settle the debt.

In addition, reports from early 2024 revealed that Billiat owes R1.7 million on a home loan for a property in Midrand, South Africa.

Emerging Markets Home Loans, the creditor, sought an eviction order against occupants of the house after Billiat allegedly ceased payments following his move to Yadah FC in March 2024.

The property was reportedly set to be auctioned to recover the outstanding amount.

Billiat’s financial struggles have sparked widespread discussion, given his successful football career and high-profile status in African football.

State witness claims mother sold daughter, Joslin Smith, to sangoma for R20,000 for her skin and eyes

A state witness has provided a shocking testimony in the trial concerning the disappearance of six-year-old Joslin Smith.

Lourentia Lombaard, who was originally a co-accused but later became a state witness, claimed in the Western Cape High Court in Saldanha that Joslin’s mother, Kelly Smith, confessed to selling her daughter to a sangoma, a traditional healer, for R20,000.

Lombaard alleged that the sangoma specifically wanted Joslin for her eyes and skin.

This revelation came during the ongoing trial of Smith, her boyfriend Jacquen Appollis, and their friend Stevano van Rhyn, who face charges of kidnapping and human trafficking related to Joslin’s disappearance from her Middelpos, Saldanha Bay home on January 19, 2024.

The testimony has added a chilling new layer to the case, which has already attracted significant public attention.
