Loved the book, I just don’t think this type of folklore translates well on screen. These stories are best read/told orally since imagination can conjure up images far more terrifying than CGI.

They also cut out historical/colonial context which made the story more interesting.

The “dark” scenes were actually shot with enough light for the cameras to see. Fede Álvarez gave the actors special contact lenses that restricted their vision, forcing them to genuinely stumble around like they couldn’t see.
