FROM INFLUENCING GIG TO DEFAMATION LAWSUIT.

After enduring the ordeal of imprisonment at Kirikiri Correctional Facility and nearly a year of attending numerous court proceedings, cloth vendor @ruchyyclothings against whom influencer Caramel Plug filed a lawsuit, has achieved a favorable outcome at last. The case was dismissed in court on the 22nd of February 2024, all thanks to the swift legal representation provided by @citizen_gavel 's lawyer @AgihSylvester.

On the 29th of February, 2024, Citizens' Gavel participated in a stakeholder's roundtable discussing Oyo State's Non-Custodial Sentencing Bill, aimed at alleviating congestion in correctional facilities by offering alternative sentencing options like community service, probation, fines, and house arrest.

Action points from the meeting include forming a subcommittee, meeting with the Attorney General, obtaining a clean copy of the Non-Custodial Sentencing Bill, and facilitating the Governor's approval.

Attendees included representatives from Oyo State Judiciary, Agodi Correctional Facility, Oyo State Ministry of Justice, Department of Public Prosecutions, Office of the Attorney General, Nigerian Bar Association (Ibadan Branch), J.D.P.C, and Citizens' Gavel. Representatives from Citizens' Gavel included Barr. Femi Ajibade, Barr. Funmi Adedoyin, and Barr. Rita Odafe-Ofarn.

We are thankful for the opportunity to participate in this stakeholder's roundtable discussion, as it underscores our dedication to prison decongestion and creating a fair society for all to thrive in.
