My dad has vascular dementia, and so far, he forgot he has dementia. He’s fine according to him.

However in life he was proud of his intellect and skills, he was a master mechanic and welder. Now he can’t make a toast without instructions and he can’t even check the oil in a car.

If I was to ask him when he was well what to do I know he would want to end his life. He would be horrified that he is so dependent on me and other people. His entire life he wanted to be independant.

The only consolation I have is that so far, he doesnt know or realize and it’s completely painless. He mostly sleeps all day now.
